The Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Abu Dhabi would like to introduce Jean-Marie Frentz, its new Executive Director, taking over this month from Loïc Bertoli who successfully headed the Office for the past 6 years.
Jean-Marie brings a wealth of experience to the post. A career diplomat, he joins the LTIO after having served for four years as Deputy Head of Mission of the Luxembourg Embassy to the United Kingdom in London where he was also co-accredited as Deputy Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization and as Deputy Head of Mission to Iceland and, between 2018 and 2021, to Ireland.
Prior to that, he worked on the Middle East and North Africa and on European economic affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg, on investment project preparation at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, as an economic attaché at the EU Delegation in Syria and as a programme management officer at UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People in Jerusalem and at UNDP’s Niger country office.
Jean-Marie holds an MSc from the London School of Economics (LSE), an MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and a diplôme d’ingénieur from the École européenne de chimie, polymères et matériaux in Strasbourg. He has completed postgraduate training at the United Nations University in Toyko and at the École nationale d’Administration.
He has travelled widely across the Middle East, North and West Africa.
His mother tongue is Luxembourgish and he speaks German, French and English fluently. In addition, he was awarded a diploma in Arabic from Al-Quds university.
